Best in Show

As Bea’s show debut quickly closes in on us, we are spending this week fine tuning our skills and preparing for the big weekend!  We have made the backyard into our very own little show ring and Hen and Al are happy to be the acting judges.  So far, so good.  They’ve been giving us all 10’s.

Mom, you can't wear these shoes to my show. You'll embarrass me.

Tomorrow Bea is getting a full groom head to toe.  This will include a full shampoo, conditioning and blow dry.  Once fully dried (which feels like 4 hours) my little Bea will have her nails trimmed, ears and tail given a dusting (light trim) teeth cleaned, and eyelashes curled.  Ok, maybe we’ll leave her lashes.  Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning we will give her a full groom all over again.  I shower everyday and Bea wants to too.  Sounds fair.

As excited as we are, we’re ten times more nervous that the other goldens and owners will laugh at us.  We’ve decided to watch Best in Show tonight, just to be prepared.

In the mean time, Bea and I have been busy picking out my outfits for the show ring.  I want to blend in with Bea because she needs to be the focus of the judges attention.  With that in mind, Henry thinks I also need to be sure to look tres chic and Albert thinks that making a statement is important.  Take a look at the looks the dogs have pulled for me.  They’ve got quite the eye for fashion, clearly they’re my dogs.

Wish us luck on the shows! If we don’t crash and burn, we’ll invite friends to come next time!

Michael Kors. Classic and chic. Al's pic.

Ralph Lauren, an obvious yes and Bea's #1 choice.

Oscar de la Renta. For extra chicness. Clearly Hen.

In case it gets chilly!

Michael Kors, will match Bea beautifully! Henry's 1st choice, sans heels.

Michael again, the dogs like to support American designers. What can I say?

Good Luck! You will do just fine. I’ve been showing my 14 year old and she’s gone Best Veteran in the last two specialties! She gets around better than I do!

I always try to wear a dark color to provide a strong background for the gold of the dog. If you wear light colors sometimes the dog will blend in. Whatever you wear, you will be the best dressed – you know how terribly all those handlers dress!!!
